After our adventure the night before the last thing that we needed was bad news, but that is exactly what we got when we arrived at the NICU. The Dr. had decided to do an echo because of the heart murmur that he had heard. The echo showed that Coleman had a hole in his heart. (PDA) This is an opening that is necessary in utero, but that should close shortly after birth. HIs PDA measured 5-6mm wide. So the Dr. decided to start him on a medication called Neoprphen to try and close this opening. In order to give this medication they would have to put an IV in Colemans jugular vein. If the medication did not work our next option was to have surgery to close it. We waited on pins and needles for three days. We were then informed that there was still a hole, but they would try the medication one more time. After 3 more days of waiting still nothing, luckily Coleman was doing well enough that they decided to let him grow bigger and then evaluate him then and decide if surgery was necessary.

Oh Ashley, what a handsome little fuzzy man. I can't believe you went into labor at work. I have to say though, after it happened to you I prayed every shift that it would happen to me (Esther wouldn't have been early at that point, and I was ready to be done). I am glad that he is home and doing so well. Are you back at work? I come back next week. :( I am not that excited. This maternity leave rules. See ya soon!
